My studio is where ideas take shape through layers of paint, color, texture and pattern.
My studio is anywhere on my property: inside the house, sometimes in my garage but most often it’s my backyard garden. This is where I don’t worry about paint splatters or drips landing on the ground. It’s where I soak up the sun, birds and butterflies as I paint. Often my painting sessions include dancing to my favorite music as I create.

The Process
I rarely know exactly where a painting will end when I begin. I may start with a color, a shape, a fragment of a landscape or simply an impulse to put paint on the surface.
I build, cover, scrape, add, and remove. Earlier marks often remain beneath later layers, creating a sense of history within the painting. I try to stay attentive to what is happening rather than forcing the work toward a predetermined result.
Throughout the process I journal what I like and don’t like about the work as it develops.
This gives me direction, keeps me true to my intentions for the art and gives me a great record of how my work is evolving.
